I’m a 50-year-old semi-retired homeowner who loves travelling, exploring new places and experiencing life at a slower, more local pace. I travel on my own and live a very quiet lifestyle. I don’t drink or smoke, I’m usually tucked up in bed early, and my idea of a good day is a long walk, a swim, time outdoors or pottering in the garden.
I’ve always been a huge animal lover and have had much-loved pets throughout my life. When my last pet passed away, I made the difficult decision not to have another while I’m travelling, simply because I know how attached I become and how much I dislike leaving them. When my travelling days are over, there will absolutely be animals in my life again. I’m a foster mum to all the neighbours cats and dogs instead.
I work with children with additional needs, which has developed a great deal of patience, empathy, attentiveness and calmness in me. Those qualities are very much part of how I care for animals too. I see pets as members of the family, each with their own personality, routines and needs.
House sitting feels like a perfect fit for me: I get the pleasure of caring for animals and experiencing a new place, while homeowners can go away knowing that both their pets and their home are being treated with genuine care and respect.
Experience with pets & homes
I’ve cared for animals throughout my life and am very comfortable with different personalities, routines and temperaments. I’m naturally calm, patient and attentive around animals, and I genuinely enjoy getting to know them and helping them feel happy, secure and relaxed while their owners are away.
I understand that every pet is different. Some want lots of affection and company, while others need time and space to trust someone new. I’m very happy to follow feeding schedules, walking routines, household rules and any individual instructions you leave for me. My priority is to keep your pets’ lives as normal, comfortable and familiar as possible. Animals have been part of my life for as long as I can remember. Over the years I’ve had dogs, cats, rabbits, hamsters and guinea pigs, and growing up in the countryside I even had a donkey and a lamb. I became especially attached to the lamb, who became incredibly tame and very much part of the family.
I have also looked after homes for friends and family and have stayed in many Airbnbs while travelling. I take enormous pride in caring for other people’s property. I am exceptionally clean and tidy, very respectful of other people’s belongings, security-conscious and careful with a home. I’m often told that I leave places in even better condition than I found them.
As a homeowner myself, I fully understand what it means to hand someone the keys to your home and trust them to look after everything properly.
