Common questions
Is it free?
Yes, for both sides. Listing your home, browsing, applying, messaging and matching never cost anything. A few extras are paid — a verified badge, more visibility — but you never need them to find a sit or a sitter.
Do I need a Portuguese SIM card?
Most hosts share their wifi password and you can browse from there. For travel within Portugal, an EU SIM works fine — there are no roaming charges.
Are most sits in summer?
Counter-intuitively, summer isn't the peak — many hosts are home then, already at the beach. The exception is the busy coast in peak August, when some owners travel to escape the crowds. Overall, the most active months are spring (March-May) and autumn (September-November), plus winter when northern Europeans escape the cold.
Will I need a car?
Depends on the sit. Lisbon and Porto sits rarely need a car. Rural Alentejo and Beira sits almost always do. Read each listing — hosts specify whether a car is needed and whether they provide one.
What if I don't speak Portuguese?
English is widely spoken in tourist areas and major cities, and most hosts communicate in English. For the occasional Portuguese-only listing, a translator app covers it comfortably.
