I’m currently exploring the Netherlands as a potential place to move to, and I’d love to spend a week or two experiencing everyday life there rather than visiting only as a tourist. I’m hoping to get a real feel for the city, meet people locally, attend a few professional and community events, and understand what living there could actually be like.
Housesitting fits this perfectly because I enjoy being around animals and prefer a calm, home-like environment when I travel. I’m responsible, independent and respectful of other people’s space, and I’d be very happy to care for a home and pets while getting to know the area at a more local pace.
Experience with pets & homes
I currently have two beautiful cats of my own, so caring for animals is very much part of my everyday life. I also used to care for a German Boxer who had epilepsy, which taught me to be attentive, calm and responsible around an animal with additional health needs.
I haven’t yet done a formal house sit for someone I didn’t know, but I have looked after a friend’s home in Lisbon for a week. I’ve also cared for a friend’s cat in Shanghai while they were away. The cat had no teeth and needed to be fed soft food on a regular schedule, so keeping to his routine was especially important.
I’m very respectful of other people’s homes and belongings, and I understand that trusting someone with both your pet and your keys is a big thing. I’d treat both with the same care I would want for my own home and animals.
